What does detritus mean in surface maintenance?

Detritus is loose or accumulated material such as leaves, soil, grass cuttings, organic debris and compacted deposits. If it remains on a surface, it can retain moisture, obstruct drainage and provide a place for moss or weeds to establish.

What is the difference between preventative and remedial maintenance?

Preventative maintenance removes loose material before it causes deterioration. Remedial work addresses established moss, weeds, compaction, soil buildup or surface displacement and usually needs a more aggressive or specialist process.
