Kersten UBS-series two-wheel tractors
More demanding work.
A matched PTO system.
Recover overgrown paths, cut vegetation and renovate gravel with a carrier designed around mechanical attachment drive. Compare UBS Hydro and Alpin power units for your maintenance workload.
Choose around the implement workload
Five UK-listed UBS power units. One complete system to specify.
Start with the most demanding attachment you need to run. Then compare engine, steering, controls and the complete working combination.

UBS Alpin: stronger carrier construction and added control
Power unit shown with an attachment; confirm the complete package.
Alpin · mechanical implement PTO
UBS Alpin II 23
Choose it when: A heavier attachment workload and challenging terrain justify the Alpin’s reinforced wheel motors and oil-cooled hydraulic system.
Power unit shown with an attachment; confirm the complete package.
Alpin · mechanical implement PTO
UBS Alpin II 23 Pro
Choose it when: Active handlebar steering, Comfort Drive II and axle adjustment will help balance and control your chosen implements.
Prices are for the linked power-unit listings, ex VAT. Ask for wheels, tyres, attachment, mounting equipment and controls to be itemised. A pictured mower or weedbrush is not included simply because it appears in the photograph.
Slope figures describe the published carrier rating. Confirm the permitted working combination, tyres, attachment, direction of operation and conditions against the supplied machine’s instructions. Specify the site as well as its gradient.
Confirm current availability and build specification, including steering and control options. Model numbers are not a direct comparison of net engine output.
Separate travel from implement power
Hydraulic wheel drive. Mechanical attachment drive.
Move at the useful pace
Variable hydraulic travel lets you slow the machine where a brush or renovator needs time to work. Forward speed is a working adjustment, separate from the implement drive.
Drive the implement by PTO
A mechanical connection transfers power to the attachment. Specify the tool’s power requirement, PTO speed, rotation and coupling; matching diameter alone is insufficient.
Choose the steering package
Hydro II uses hydraulic wheel motors. Zero-Turn and Comfort Drive options vary by model and configuration, while Alpin Pro lists active handlebar steering and Comfort Drive II.
Choose the job, then the tool
Useful attachments for a matched UBS carrier.
These examples show how the UBS can change between surface cleaning, vegetation work, renovation and winter duties. Each price belongs to the linked attachment, separate from the carrier.
Choose the exact tool version. Mechanical and hydraulic versions can share a similar name or appearance. Check the complete mounting and drive arrangement against the power unit.
Plan the complete maintenance task
Loosen, clear and maintain the surface.
Recover the path edge
A weedbrush breaks up overhanging growth and accumulated soil. Follow with suitable collection or clearance, then maintain the exposed hard surface with regular sweeping.
Specify brush material, angle and guide-wheel settings around the surface being treated.
Renovate gravel
The renovator works into a suitable surface to loosen compacted material and weeds. The roller levels within the working width; loosened vegetation still needs removal.
Choose the tool set and depth around gravel type and construction, rather than treating every gravel path identically.
Choose the mowing finish
Flail decks cut and mulch vegetation. Rotary or drum attachments provide different cutting actions. Choose around the growth, finish, carrier power and any clearance needed afterwards.

What does Alpin Pro add?
Active handlebar steering
The steering responds proportionally to movement of the handlebar: greater movement produces a stronger steering response. This gives the operator a direct way to guide the machine.
Comfort Drive II
Direction and travel-speed commands are separated at the hand controls. Confirm the supplied control arrangement and how it suits your operator and attachment workload.
A sliding axle
Axle adjustment helps balance the carrier around implements of different sizes and weights. The complete setup still needs to be specified for the attachment being used.
Specify the full working combination
A 70 mm connection is only part of compatibility.
Carrier and generation
Provide the full model, serial number, wheels and installed controls. Older UBS and current Hydro II / Alpin builds can differ.
PTO and mounting
Match coupling, drive type, PTO speed, rotation, flange and bracket. Confirm any adaptation for an existing attachment.
Power and balance
Check the tool’s requirement alongside carrier capacity, traction, attachment weight and the complete working dimensions.
Site and access
Check gateways, turns, transport, storage, surface condition and gradients with the attachment fitted.
Hydraulic, mechanical and electric PTO are different systems
K-series powered implements use hydraulic drive. UBS uses a mechanical implement PTO. Other carriers may use an electric PTO. A shared 70 mm interface does not establish compatibility between those systems.
Examples from real maintenance work
Path recovery, weed management and gravel renovation.
Veolia’s path-edging trial
Kersten’s 2021 case study reports approximately half the working time in a trial comparing a UBS 16 and weedbrush with hand edging. Use the recorded trial as a starting point for assessing your own route.

Before you choose
Your UBS-series questions answered.
Does “Hydro” mean the attachments are hydraulically driven?
No. The UBS models shown use hydraulic wheel drive and a mechanical implement PTO. Choose the attachment’s drive version to match the carrier.
Can any 70 mm attachment fit a UBS?
No. The interface must be matched with drive type, PTO speed and rotation, mounting geometry, power and loading. Hydraulic or electric-PTO tools are not automatically compatible.
What is different about Hydro II 13 and Hydro II 16?
The Hydro II 13 UK listing specifies a Honda GX390 engine and recoil start. The Hydro II 16 G-E specifies a 16 hp twin-cylinder B&S Vanguard engine and electric start. Confirm the full control and wheel package.
What does Alpin Pro add over Alpin?
The Pro listing includes active handlebar steering, electric Zero-Turn, Comfort Drive II and a sliding axle. Specify these controls and the axle arrangement around the attachments you intend to use.
Are the photographed attachments included in the power-unit price?
The shown price belongs to the linked power-unit listing. Ask for an itemised quotation that identifies wheels, implement, drive and mounting equipment, controls and optional accessories.
Can the published slope figure be used for any attachment?
No. Confirm the complete working combination, tyres, attachment, direction of use and surface conditions against the supplied machine’s operating instructions.
Does a gravel renovator collect the weeds?
The WE renovator loosens weeds and surface material and levels the working pass. Plan a separate removal stage for the loosened vegetation and debris.
Can I use my older UBS attachments on a new carrier?
Provide the carrier and attachment models, serial numbers, coupling and drive details. Generations and adaptations can differ; confirm the complete combination before ordering.
