Flail mower attachments
Cut long grass.
Mulch dense growth.
Turn a suitable two-wheel tractor into a flail-mowing system. Compare Zanon TSM and Kersten SCHLM decks around vegetation, working width and the power your carrier can supply.
Choose around grass and lighter vegetation
Zanon TSM: three widths for a matched carrier.
Choose the deck with the carrier, not by width alone. TSM offers lighter attachments for grass, prunings and light scrub. SCHLM provides a heavier deck with a choice of cutting tools for more demanding vegetation work.

Specify the one-metre deck by its full model and serial number, together with the correct cutting tools and fittings.
Why choose a flail attachment?
Mow and break down the growth in one pass.
Work through longer growth
A rotating shaft carries multiple cutting tools across the deck. The tools cut and shred material beneath the housing, making this a useful approach where growth has become too long or dense for the required routine mower finish.
Leave a mulched surface
The deck deposits shredded vegetation back onto the ground. This can suit rough-area maintenance without stopping to empty a collector, where the site accepts the remaining material.
Use one carrier for other jobs
A compatible two-wheel tractor can run different attachments throughout the year. Choose the carrier’s drive and interface around the equipment you need, as well as the mowing task.
Compare the working systems
Which deck suits your vegetation?
| Choice | Zanon TSM | Kersten SCHLM |
|---|---|---|
| Working widths | 62 cm* / 92 / 110 cm | 65 / 90 / 100 / 120 cm |
| Published deck weights | 88 / 104 / 120 kg | 125 / 137 / 142 / 152 kg |
| Working role | Grass, pruning waste and lighter scrub with a matched carrier. | Heavier vegetation with a matched carrier and cutting-tool setup. |
| Published material diameter | Series page states up to 3 cm. | Series page states up to 5 cm. |
| Height adjustment | Mechanical; adjustable front wheels and pivoting mount. | Stepless adjustment; front supporting wheels and wheel locking are listed. |
| Cutting setup | Helical rotor and steel knives; select the correct PTO version. | Y-type / boot-type tools; match the rotor generation. |
| Power transmission | Mechanical PTO and V-belt drive. | Mechanical PTO with the matching 70 mm interface. |
Material-diameter figures need context. The 3 cm and 5 cm figures are the current Kersten series claims, not a promise for every stem, species or site. Confirm the actual material, blades and carrier before relying on them.
Working width is not overall width. Measure the complete carrier and deck for gates, transport and turns.
Choose the attachment and power unit together
Which flail suits your two-wheel tractor?
Mechanical PTO is not hydraulic implement drive
UBS carriers use hydrostatic wheel travel, while these mower attachments require a mechanical PTO arrangement. A carrier described as “hydraulic” or “electric” does not automatically have the correct implement drive.
Check the attachment coupling, PTO rotation, speed, power and approved mounting. A matching connection diameter alone does not establish compatibility.
Compare the current two-wheel tractor range →Match the actual deck and carrier
Give Kersten the full power-unit model, PTO details and mower model or serial number. Confirm loading, handling, wheel setup and the conditions of the intended site.
Some SCHLM product pages also list Matador M-Trac variants. Confirm the specific drive and adaptation supplied rather than assuming every electrically powered carrier fits every deck.
Check machine and attachment compatibility →TSM PTO figures: Zanon lists 800/1000 rpm under “RPM PTO”. This is a PTO-input specification; it should not be used as a verified rotor-speed figure. Specify the correct drive version with the carrier.
Blades and consumables
Choose parts for the rotor you actually have.
Order cutting tools by model, rotor generation and part number. The listings below are individual replacement parts, with prices per unit or piece; they are not complete blade-set prices.
SCHLM and SCHLM II parts must be checked separately
The manufacturer lists generation-specific cutting-tool sets, and some older sets are explicitly marked as unsuitable for SCHLM II. Give the serial number and existing rotor details when choosing a complete set or replacement tools.
Ask Kersten to specify the Y-type or boot-type arrangement for your vegetation and desired finish, and include the correct fixings in the quotation.

Height control, support and service access.
Height, support and adjustment
TSM uses adjustable front wheels and a pivoting mount. SCHLM lists stepless cutting-height adjustment, 260 × 85 mm hollow-chamber front wheels and wheel locking for suitable bank work.
Ask about a matching rear roller where appropriate. Confirm the actual cutting-height range and the complete attachment setup for the model quoted.
Cutting and service features
Zanon lists a helical cutting rotor, secured steel knives, a freewheel and safety bolt in the attachment arrangement. SCHLM lists a blade brake, front pendulum flaps, rear rubber strip, protective skids and a flail-shaft access opening.
Maintain the model’s guards, cutting tools and fittings as specified in its instructions. Use the correct manual for the supplied generation.
Choose around the finish and carrier
What does the complete job require?
Mulching leaves material behind
These attachments shred and discharge the cut vegetation onto the surface. If a heavy layer would cover the grass or conflict with the site’s maintenance plan, include clearance or compare a collecting mower system.
Blade choice, forward speed, height and vegetation condition all affect the resulting finish.
Compact and conventional tractors
The TSM and SCHLM models above are listed here as two-wheel tractor attachments. They should not be treated as universal three-point-linkage flails for a compact tractor.
For a tractor-mounted flail, provide the tractor model, PTO details, linkage category and required working width so the appropriate mower can be specified.

Maintaining the performance of grass surfaces
Kersten’s article covers surface condition, mowing and overgrown grass. It explains why leaving a heavy layer of cuttings can create further maintenance work.
Read the Kersten article →Parts lists and technical references
Match parts documentation to the machine generation. Kersten lists the SCHLM document E00034 separately from the SCHLM II document E00138 R05, dated October 2024 and listed from machine number 72411.

Before you choose
Your flail-attachment questions answered.
Is a flail attachment the same as a Roughcutter?
No. The TSM and SCHLM attachments need a suitable power unit. A Kersten RCH Roughcutter is a dedicated self-propelled flail mower. Compare the complete package around the jobs you need to do.
Can any 70 mm carrier run a SCHLM mower?
No. The connection must be matched together with PTO type, rotation, speed, power, loading and mounting. Hydraulic implement drive and mechanical PTO drive are different systems.
Is the TSM 600 cutting width 60 or 62 cm?
Kersten uses 60 cm in its product title and specification table. Zanon’s current TSM table specifies 62 cm. Confirm the supplied version, working width and overall dimensions when ordering.
Which carrier suits the SCHLM 100?
Kersten lists Hydro II 13, Hydro II 16, Alpin and Alpin Pro carriers, while the current manufacturer SCHLM II 100 specification requires at least 11.8 kW / 16 hp. The supplied deck generation and power requirement must be confirmed.
Are the pictured two-wheel tractors included?
The prices shown are for the linked attachment listings. Ask for the power unit, attachment, coupling or adaptation, blades, fittings and optional equipment to be itemised in a complete quotation.
Can SCHLM and SCHLM II use the same blade sets?
Do not assume that. Manufacturer listings distinguish generation-specific sets and mark some older sets as unsuitable for SCHLM II. Use the mower and rotor details to choose the correct parts.
Do these flails collect grass?
The listed attachments cut, shred and discharge material onto the ground. They are not presented here as collecting systems. Compare another mowing arrangement where collection is essential.
