Informing young students about Integrated Weed Management

What a successful day looks like?

Yesterday, we went to Wiltshire College & University in Lackham.

It is an important land based college which promotes productivity, sustainability and provides skills and knowledge to support the Landscape industry.

Thanks to Victoria Fiander, we had the opportunity to meet some of those young students who are studying a Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship Course and introduce them to Integrated Weed Management.

You may be wondering why it is important that we teach Integrated Weed Management to students who want to become part of the landscape and horticultural industry?

Integrated Weed Management is not just something we propose as the only solution. On the contrary: Integrated Weed Management helps you to find the best Nature-based solution for your individual Weed problem.

And this is exactly why it is so important to make it clear to young students early on in their studies that there is no one method for every type of Weed control. When we think of different surfaces or different areas that we want to treat, like tarmac or gravel, parks or schools, it might not be wise or even allowed to just use chemicals for example.

And here is where the knowledge about Integrated Weed Management is essential. For those students who are preparing their future by investing their time in the study of landscaping, focussing on or knowing about just one or two methods in those critical times when legislative changes may be imminent, this can be detrimental.

To avoid that from happening, we were pleased with the opportunity to present and demonstrate some of our Kersten machines to share knowledge about different ways of Weed Control and Weed Prevention that can be very helpful or even crucial at some point.
